Matmen Wrestling Club Waterloo Region 2009 The Waterloo Regional Matmen Wrestling Club was started in 2005 by Mr. Richard Remillard, a long time veteran of the sport and a very accomplished athlete. The club was initially a satellite for the Mississauga Matmen wrestling club. This is our fifth season of competition and we continue to increase in numbers and accomplishments. Currently we are the boys national champions from ages 9 to 18. An accomplishment no other club has achieved in the history of Canadian amateur wrestling.The clubs current coaching staff includes Mr. Richard Remillard as mentioned previously, Mr. Sean Hughes, Dr. Ivan Jagas, Mr. Matthew Crocket, Mr. Dan Brown, Mr. Mehdi Kiawer, Mr. Manny Galvez and Mr. Gary Bird. All of our coaches are highly accomplished wrestlers at many levels. They have been Ontario High School (OFSAA), Provincial and National Champions as well as international competition medalists. Between the 8 coaches there is more than a century of on the mat experience. The coaches receive no payment and are involved due to their love of the sport and their wish to repay their community by passing on values and skills they have received from the sport of wrestling.The club is a non-profit organization registered with the province of Ontario. One hundred percent of all current fees go to paying for training equipment, out of town practices, tournament travel and accommodations, training camps, and our end of year awards banquet. We do fundraising throughout the year to raise money needed to attend as many tournaments as possible. Our goal this year will be to have as many matches as possible for each athlete and to prepare athletes for the Ontario and Canadian Cadet, Juvenile and Junior Championships as well as the OFSAA (Ontario Federation of School Athletics Association) tournament.
